Visit & booking
We have a clinic at 130 Townsend Street in Goodwood, Cape Town. Booking is essential.
Our Goodwood clinic is open Monday to Saturday from 08h00 to 14h00. Please book your appointment in advance.
You do not require a referral from your doctor for a Peek-a-Babe 4D baby scan.
Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your appointment. Depending on the package selected, appointments usually take between 20 and 30 minutes. This allows time for preparation and for baby to change position if needed.
We can accommodate up to nine family members and friends. Small children and babies should be accompanied by an adult so you can enjoy the full scanning time.
There is no need to bring anything special. Comfortable clothing, preferably a separate top and trousers, makes it easier to expose your tummy for the scan.
Please visit our Packages & Fees page for current scan options, inclusions and prices.
Payment can be made by cash or credit/debit card. Cheques are not accepted.
Your scan
A 2D ultrasound provides a flat, two-dimensional view of your baby. A 3D scan creates a three-dimensional still image. A 4D scan adds movement over time, allowing you to watch a live, moving view of your baby.
Your scan will be performed by a qualified sonographer with extensive obstetric ultrasound experience.
For optimal facial images, the best time is generally between 24 and 35 weeks. Earlier scans can still provide wonderful views, and the ideal timing may depend on the package you choose.
For twins, we recommend visiting at around 25 weeks because space becomes limited sooner. It may not be possible to see both babies clearly in the same image.
A full bladder is generally not necessary unless you are in the very early stages of pregnancy.
Gender confirmation is optional and depends on baby being in a suitable position. Although we take great care, an accurate view cannot always be guaranteed.
Image quality depends mainly on baby’s position, the amount of amniotic fluid and the amount of tissue between the probe and baby. If baby is facing away or lying in a difficult position, clear facial images may be harder to obtain.
Your digital images will be prepared after the appointment and made available through a link sent by email.
Safety & results
4D ultrasound is generally considered safe when used appropriately by a qualified healthcare professional. It uses sound waves rather than ionising radiation, and diagnostic ultrasound has a long-established safety record.
At Peek-a-Babe, your scan is performed by a qualified professional following accepted ultrasound practice. We’re happy to answer any questions so you feel informed and comfortable before your appointment.
Our 4D services are intended for low-risk pregnancies. If you have lower abdominal pain, bleeding or another medical concern, please contact your doctor or seek appropriate urgent medical care.
Yes. Peek-a-Babe scans are additional bonding and viewing scans and do not replace routine antenatal care, diagnostic scans or hospital appointments.
No. Ultrasound has limitations and no scan can identify every condition. Your routine medical and anomaly scans remain an important part of your antenatal care.
